Premier league news- Blackburn Rovers, Blackpool, Bolton Wanderers
BLACKBURN ROVERS
Blackburn manager Sam Allardyce has expressed his disappointment in losing to Aston Villa 3-1 during the Carling Cup on Wednesday. Rovers would be extremely happy with the current form of striker Gael Givet, who handed the club with the lead for the 6th
time this season. Yet, Rovers have struggled to produce a solid defence and were victims of their own defensive frailties which enabled Villa to capitalize and decimate the opposition 3-1.
The manager stated that his side needs to understand that a football game lasts 90 minutes and not 45. Allardyce explained that the second half seems to be the problem for the side and even thought his side takes the lead, they are unable to hang on to it
or add up to finish off the opposition. Sam continued by saying that this season, they have taken the lead 6 times out of 7 matches but have managed to win only 2 of them, so that shows how the sides play in each half and that is exactly what happened in the
Carling Cup.
BLACKPOOL
Blackpool boss Ian Holloway has claimed that reports of a possible dressing room collision at Chelsea were overstated. The manager agreed that although there were some heated words exchanged between the players and the manager, this was only a result of
the bad tactics which led the side to concede 4 goals before half time.
The side conceded quick goals thanks to Malouda and Drogba when Holloway experimented with the defence in their trip to Stamford Bridge. After half time, Holloway returned to his old tactics and even though it didn’t stop Chelsea’s attack, it served as a
damage reduction strategy.
"People are assuming it was an argument, a disagreement - it was not. It was people saying, 'We can't do this', 'We can't do that' or 'We should be a lot deeper'. I don't blame them, if they'd have sat there and not said a word I would have thought there
was something wrong with my boys. Their egos were smarting. They didn't want to produce a first half like that but unfortunately they could do nothing to stop what Chelsea did to us.” claimed Ian Holloway.
The manager added that his change in tactics were followed by all and sadly it didn’t go that well and that is the reason why the players argued to change things themselves. The manager explained that there were a lot of players who were trying to act smart
and Holloway had to step in to calm things down. Holloway explained that he issued a different set of tactics for the second half and that managed to calm the spirits of the players.
BOLTON WANDERERS
Bolton Wanderers Skipper, Kevin Davies wants his club to register the first win of the season over the weekend, when a blood hungry Manchester United visits the Reebok Stadium. The side is currently looking for their first win against the Red Devils in their
past 6 attempt and the Captain stated that a win against the 18 time premier league Champions would be the perfect way to kick off their season. The player stated that it has been a few years since Bolton have managed one over the Red Devils but it would be
a nice way to make a come back with a favourable result against Sir Alex’s men. Manchester United are in red hot form this season, having thrashed Liverpool 3-2 last weekend, where star striker Dimitar Berbatov scored the club’s first hatrick in the fixture
for over 64 years.
