The player claimed that playing against Bolton may have been thought as an easy game. Aston Villa
Steven Gerrard is backing his former Liverpool manager Gerard Houllier to be successful at Aston Villa after revealing he was "desperate" to return to the Barclays Premier League. Houllier has finally been confirmed as Martin O'Neill's successor after quitting as technical director of the French Football Federation. He is expected to be formally unveiled at a press conference tomorrow before taking charge for the first time in Monday's league encounter at Stoke.
Houllier gave Gerrard his debut at Anfield more than a decade ago and the England skipper has nothing but praise for the Frenchman who spent six years on Merseyside. The English Captain claimed that he enjoys a respect based relationship with Houllier. The Liverpool midfielder was given his debut by the same manager and claimed that over the years, he learnt a lot while working with the new Aston Villa manager. The English Captain added that Aston Villa are lucky to have employed such a legendary manager and it was not a surprise to see Houllier back in the premier league. Gerrard praised the manager’s passion for football and his never give up mentality.
Birmingham City
Birmingham City striker targets West Bromwich Albion as his possible return to action. The player was injured owing to a torn thigh issue in the pre-season while playing against Real Mallorca in August. The player has however thought of taking the Rehab program slowly and is in no hurry. He does however wants to play some sort of play on the 18th September West Bromwich match. Phillips only recently signed a new one year extension this summer, following his impressive performances off the bench.
The player claimed that the injury is now better and that there is no pain or symptoms. Phillips added that its now only a matter of time to catch up to his full fitness and get all the things right with his medical staff. Kevin insisted that his return to first team action was not far away but being ready for the Liverpool game on Sunday would be too much to ask for. At least one week’s training is needed by the forward to get back into shape and play some form of game in their next fixture to West Bromwich.
Blackburn Rovers
Hartlepool United have signed Blackburn Rovers goalkeeper Jake Kean on a month's loan. The 19-year-old will provide back-up for first-choice keeper Scott Flinders, with Andy Rafferty ruled out for three months after breaking two bones in his finger during training last week. Pools caretaker manager Mick Wadsworth claimed that Hartlepool’s goal keeping coach was impressed by Jake’s development at Ewood park and has a word with Rover’s goal keeping coach. The manager added that they are delighted to have the player in the ranks who would act as a cover up for injured Scott Flinders. Rovers managed to gain a single point from their yesterday’s outing at City of Manchester Stadium. The team managed to take the early lead thanks to a fumble by Joe Hart and Toure, but the home side managed to find the equalizing goal in the second half.
