Premier league news:West Bromwich Albion rejects Eric Djemba-Djemba
Cameroon midfielder Eric Djemba-Djemba was all set to join the newly promoted English club West Bromwich Albion, but failed to complete the transfer owing to medical issues. Djemba has played in the English Premier League (EPL) for Manchester United and Aston Villa before joining the Danish club Odense in 2008.
Odense has however issued a statement claiming that it was wrong for West Bromwich Albion to reject the move. According to the club director Kim Brink, the Baggies claimed that there was a problem with the player’s medical test and had therefore offered a lower price. The director was baffled by comments made by the English club and insisted that Djemba-Djemba was completely fit and ready to take on any challenge. The director confirmed that the player was injured in spring this year but has fully recovered.
Kim Brink therefore labelled the claims made by the English club as being “a poor explanation” and accused West Bromwich of issuing such a statement only to get a lower price.
"People can come and say whatever they want to get a better price, but if they really wanted Eric, they would pay what we agreed”, claimed the upset Director Kim Brink.
Kim Brink added that she had a vast experience in football management and many unusual things don’t surprise her that easily. However, this situation was very confusing, since a deal was just on the horizon for the player. Eric Djemba-Djemba has played 49 matches for the Danish club, scoring just two goals. The player is known for his all-action and aggressive style of play, which has created many controversies over the years. That was the main reason of his dropout from Manchester United’s squad who sold the player in 2005 to Aston Villa. Djemba-Djemba however couldn’t settle in Aston Villa either, making only 11 appearances, and was loaned out to Burnley.
In other news, newly appointed West Ham United Manager Avram Grant has assured the fans and the club owners that star midfielder Scott Parker would stay with the Hammers at least for the upcoming season.
Grant released such a statement owing to a 7 million pound bid for the player from 4th spot Tottenham Hotspurs and would love to sign the 29-year-old English man. Scott Parker has hugely impressed everyone during last season and has revived his career with the Hammers. With over 70 appearances for the Hammers, Scott Parker has scored 4 goals but is the main stay for West Ham’s stay in the Premier league. The player has had vast experience playing for top clubs like Chelsea as well as Newcastle United. Even the co-owner of the club, David Sullivan wants the midfielder to stay with the Hammers for this season and any offer for the player is to be rejected.
Parker recently played MK Dons in their pre-season campaign and won 2-0. While talking to a news channel, the manager stated that there was no news from his side. Former Chelsea and Portsmouth manager added that there are various aims of the club and going forward and finishing better in the league is one of the major aims. The manager was aware of the fact that such aims took years of hard work and Parker was part of those aims.
The manager claimed that he was very happy for the player and praised the player’s ability. Grant added that Parker is a good player who possesses some natural talent and ability. Avram claimed that the player was a complete professional who knew his importance for the team and wouldn’t want to let that go.
Grant expected the player to up his game and perform better than last season. He added that he wanted Parker to be a part of the Hammer’s new campaign.
