Premier snooker players showcase their skills to record wins – 2011 World Snooker Q School, event 2
Mitchell Mann, Jamie Walker, Lee Walker, Zak Surety, Chris Norbury and Ian Burns have won their Round 1 matches in the third
session on the day two of this season’s World Snooker Q School Event 2.
This event is being staged at the World Snooker Academy in Sheffield.
An overview of the matches played in the late afternoon session is given below:
Mitchell Mann 4-2 Allan Taylor
Allan Taylor put up a strong performance, as he showed his magnificent break-building skills to outplay Mitchell Mann by a
frame score of 4-2. The first four frames were cagey and both players shared two frames each. In the last two frames, Taylor fired mind-boggling breaks of 92 and 83, respectively, to win the match.
Jamie Walker 4-2 Bobby Cruickshanks
The second match of the session again saw an Englishman securing a place in the next round. Jamie Walker stormed into a 2-0
lead with classy breaks of 59 and 57 in both frames, respectively. He also took the third frame without doing anything outstanding before Scottish professional, Bobby Cruickshanks, responded in the fourth and fifth frame to come within one frame at 3-2. The
Scottish, however, was not given much chance in the sixth game, as Walker reeled-off the frame with a 69-4 score-line.
Robbie Williams 1-4 Lee Walker
The third match of the session saw former 1997 Crucible quarter finalist, Lee Walker, moving comfortably into the next round.
Walker did not need to play his best game, as he was able to beat his opponent with only one dominant break of 64.
Reanne Evans 2-4 Zak Surety
This was one of the most awaited matches in the session, as people were to see the seven-time Ladies World Champion, Reanne
Evans, battling out for the next round. However, it was Zak Surety who put up a brilliant show and turned the tables over his opponent’s head. Evans lead 2-0 before Surety took the next four on a bounce to win the contest.
Chris Norbury 4-0 Sam Harvey
The most dominant performance of the session came in this match, as Chris Norbury completely white-washed Sam Harvey by a frame
score of 4-0. Though it was an old fashioned game, Norbury showcased his flawless safety skills to cruise into the next round.
James McBain 1-4 Ian Burns
The last match of the session saw another Scottish professional losing his clash against an Englishman. James McBain fired
a carving break of 81 in the first frame to lead 1-0, before he lost the next four frames in a row. Burns did not do anything outstanding, as his tactical game was enough for him to register a comfortable 4-1 win.
