  1. your doctor was prolly just being over cautious.

when i found out i was pregnant, i was already taking prenatal vitamins before my first visit to the doctor. even with the prenatals, my blood still showed borderline anemia. i was then prescribed iron pills to see if that would boost up a bit and it did help alot.

  2. Not weird, from my experience.  I had to take the iron pills in addition to my prenatals, and my doctor suggested I eat iron rich foods as well.  Total cereal was a good option they gave me, I used to eat it for breakfast almost every morning.  Everything definitely helped, but even if it does you need to continue with it until after your pregnancy.  My iron levels were fine until after I had my baby, then they dropped again and I had to continue the iron pills for a few more days.

  3. If your doctor wants you to take both I would. I just got prescribed iron pills on Monday because I am anemic. Yes your vitamins do have iron in them but not as much as you probably need.

  4. "You should take the necessary pre-natal vitamins given to you by your OB-GYN. Most pregnant women also are directed by their OB to take Iron tablets since iron deficiency is very common among pregnant women. Beofre taking any additional vitamins, you should ALWAYS ask your OB-GYN to ensure the saftey of your baby." Credit to http://wiki.answers.com/Q/Should_you_tak...
