Prepaid Cell phones?

Question

I am thinking about buying a prepaid cell phone and a 20 dollar card for it. After activating the phone with the card i can make calls and text message with it right? could someone please explain to me how this works?

correct..it works like a contract phone only you need to buy cards in order to use them..but why not get a contract they are soooooo much cheaper?
