  1. So I'm reading this as you havent got a phone.Check with the phone company because the way technolgy is it might  be able to get a phone  before you  leave home ( with the original sim card) it might have whats called International roaming which means it may work over here (Im Australian)  thats one option but rates arent cheap.Option 2  Buy  a cheap one  when  you come to Aus.My friend  is going to the USA soon and that's what shes going to buy a cheap phone when  she gets over. As opposed to  taking hers over. Enjoy our beautiful country

  2. just buy a sim card in the country Aus / NZ you can get one for $2 and keep paying as you go 3g is the latest phone so if you carry your own phone you will be right sms 25 cent per text cheap comunication worldwide who needs voice talk?

  3. I use a Telstra prepaid and it works equally well in Oz and NZ.  For that matter it also went to roaming automatically when I went to Asia, EU, Canada and USA, so I guess it pretty much works anywhere (didn't take it to Africa or South America and haven't been to Antarctica yet).

All this said, maybe you can just use roaming on your home country's phone, yeah?  Check it out with your provider.

Anyway, all the best for your holidays as both countries are great places to enjoy.
