Preparations for the Kentucky Derby – Horse Racing News
The fans of the sport in the United States and elsewhere are looking forward to another exciting racing season now that the preparations and nominations for the Kentucky Derby have started.
This is one of the most prestigious horse-racing events that take place in the United States every year. It carries a lot of significance independently, but is also very well known because of the fact that it is one of the three legs of the Triple Crown.
For the beginners, the Triple Crown is an exalted honour that is given to the race-horses who manage to claim the three important races including the Kentucky Derby.
The trials for the race have already started and it has been reported that the main contenders of the Arkansas Derby are heading the trials so far. Amongst these principals of the Arkansas Derby are the race-horses Archarcharch and Nehro.
It has also been revealed that both the champion colts are on the way to the famed Churchill Downs for the meeting that has been scheduled to take place on the 7
May. After finishing the Oaklawn Park meeting that took place on Saturday in the first and second place, the two race-horses made it to the Kentucky Derby. What was very interesting about the Oaklawn Park meeting was the fact that one of the leading Derby
hopes, The Factor was comprehensively beaten and so now the Arkansas principals have better chances of landing the most celebrated race of the United States.
Archarcharch trains under the care of the 70 year old trainer Jinks Fires, meanwhile the colt Nehro is a trainee of Steve Asmussen at the Oaklawn race-course. Fires is reported as saying, “If they don’t block the road we’ll be there.”
On the other hand, the other expected candidates of the Kentucky Derby are the race-horse Dance City and Sway Away as the nominations are made on the basis of prize money earnings in the graded-stakes events. The aforementioned two race-horses were the third
and fourth place finishers in the one-million-dollar event on Saturday.
