I'm gonna go surfing on fuerteventura in a month.

I wanna take surfing lessons there and surf as much as i can..

There's a a lake where they offer wake-boarding really close to where i live. Do you think that would be a good preparation for surfing?

Apart from that I've started to go swimming 5 times a week (Im in good shape)?

Any other suggestions?

  1. Any board sport improves your balance, but wake boarding is more like water skiing than surfing. Too much difference for it to help. Swimming is cool (although if you aren't familiar with ocean swimming, you will soon see the difference there, also). However, since you are going to take lessons, just go with the flow, and put all your energy into it. The instructors will get you going the right way. have fun!

  2. I have wake boarded a couple of times and it is really nothing like surfing.  I surf every day and when i started off i just got couple of lesson and it all took off from there.  Swimming will really help you with your stamina and is a really good idea when starting off since your arms will be dead in a hour when you are our for the first time.

    Good luck and keep surfing!

  3. i tried wakeboarding a few times but i think the only thing that wakeboarding would really help with in surfing is the balance part.

swimming is great. practice push ups too and running. that will get you ready for surfing.

  4. John F is correct. more to the point, you're better off preparing with swimming exercises so you can tone the right muscles for surf conditions (i.e. paddling your board to catch a wave). as to balancing on a board, it's just like balancing (your center of gravity) on a skateboard. hope this helps. good luck
