  1. ive been on a sandstorm, it was actually kinda cool

  2. i was in the nisqually earthquake in washington state.

and a couple other smaller earthquakes.

i've also been in a few really bad wind storms and there was a pretty bad flood in centralia, WA, which is about three towns away from me, it was caused by a pretty bad rainstorm.

for the earthquake i was in third grade and i was at school, it was really scary because it was a pretty good sized earthquake, but what can you other than get under a desk and hold on?

the wind storms was pretty simple, dont go outside and hope that a tree doesn't fall on you.

for the flooding, it wasn't bad around where i live but throughout the town where i live there were small floods (nothing like the one in centralia, and i volunteered to help out and trust me it was pretty bad down there) but you just had to wait it out.

oh and for washington state we're suppose to get a 9-10 point earthquake sometime in the future and its suppose to be like what happened in indonisia a couple years ago except ALOT worse because the fault line is alot closer to the shore than the fault line over there. needless to say, we have alot of earthquake drills.

  3. no i wasn't so i didn't do nything

  4. I've been in a couple of Hurricanes... AWESOME experience! Hung out the window & watched the "World blow by..."- both times... GREAT stuff- but NOT for the faint of heart... Some people get upset when they see childrens bodies floating in the water...  :0

  5. In 1974 there was a tornado warning across 7 southern states and in the Louisville area when the warning sirens hit I turned on WHAS840 on the radio and d**k Gilbert the Helicopter weatherman was flying north towards the Ky. Fair & Exposition Center where a tornado had just ripped part of the roof off of Freedom Hall, the arena home of the University of Louisville Cardinals.

He reported that the funnel was traveling in a north-easterly direction which meant that it would cross over Bardstown Rd, and go through Cherokee Park towards North Louisville.

I lived in the SW side of Cherokee Park and my Mother lived on the E side of the park.

I took my flashlight, water, radio, cigarettes and a 6 pack and crawled under the staircase in my carriage house apt on Everett Ave; and watched  through the storm door as the entire back yard disappeared in a gray fog and the sound of 1,000 freight trains roared through the neighborhood.

The fog cleared and I looked out onto a backyard that had not changed one bit.

The power was out, but since it was daytime I could see to get ready to go to work at The Galt House Hotel in downtown Louisville at 4th & River Rd.

I drove to work on I-71 and although I saw no damage, reports were coming in from all over the city about houses destroyed, trees and power lines down, and missing children in Radcliffe to the South at Ft. Knox.

At work we had power an TV and we could see some of the damage.

One of the waitresses in the bar where I worked on the roof said she had seen cars on the Expressway flying across in front and in back of her.  She was in shock and could not work.  She just sat and stared.

When I got home about 2 AM there were still no lights and in those days there were no emergency lighting systems yet so my neighborhood was in total darkness.

A helicopter was circling the wiht a spotlight making sure there would be no looting, bu I sat up for acouple of hours just in case.

At dawn we got up and walked a block to Bardstown Rd and it looked like a war zone.  There were telephone poles lying around like matchsticks and cars stuck in the front of stores.Windows were shattered everywhere.  There were National Guardsmen on each corner to prevent looting and to run us off the street; but we knew the alleys so we could go where we wanted.  We headed for our favorite bar, Nardy's at Sherwood Ave, only to find that the tornado had wrecked it.So we went home and headed over to The Headrest owned by Cosmo of teenage rock star fame only to find that the same tornado was a bar hopper like us and had been there, too.

There was a white van from the parkinglot of the fairgrounds that was found in the city reservoir next to the Headrest 6 miles away when they drained the reservoir to fix a leak created by the storm.

There were metal chairs found in Cincinnati, Ohio, 100 miles away that had the fairgrounds log KFEC painted on them.

The missing children were found the next day.  The y had been ripped from their mother's grasp and smashed into a tree.

In all there were 88 tornadoes throughout the South and north to Xenia, Ohio and in the Louisville area 5 were killed.

d**k Gilbert was later given a Humanitarian Award and made an Ambassador of Louisville for his timely warning and reporting while he flew ahead of the tornado to save many lives in our city at great risk of his own life.  He will never be forgotten around here.

  6. Been in a tropical storm a few times. once I had to evacuate from hurricane Rita.

If you have to evacuate leave EARLY. I was in traffic for nearly 24 hours. for a storm you can make sure stuff is put away. You have plenty of water/candles/food/flash lights.

    Just the basic stuff.

  7. earthquake yesss a very very bad one.. actually two of them... but i slept through them lol i dunno how someone sleeps through them but i did...

  8. Tornado.  1982.  On the river.  In a small towboat.  The tornado went right over the boat spun it around but could not lift it.  The news reported to our families that we were all dead.  Took us until the next day to cut all of the fallen trees out of the way so we could get home.  No one hurt though.  One H*E*L*L of a ride.  But would not want to do that again.
