Question:

Preparing for Army basic training?

Im leaving for basic training in 16 days and I need to get some exercises that will prepare me for getting "smoked". I know this is very short timing, but im already in decent shape and need to turn my workouts up another notch. Can any one give me an exercise plan that contains exercises they make you do when your getting "smoked"? Do you think I can get prepared for it in such short notice?

  1. You don't need to prepare yourself at all, you will get in great shape while you are there.  Just get yourself prepared mentally, you will be home away from home for a long time, and I always thought that was the hardest part of any time I was in the military, deployed or in training.  Being away from home.  Make the most of your last 16 days, spend some quality time w/ friends and family.

    Best advice I can give you, run, situps, scissor kicks, pushups (hold yourself in the pushup position for as long as possible) and do some chinups.  You could even try doing the bear crawl, aligator or crab walk around our home.  Then you can go around you home doing a low crawl,  if you don't know what they are, look them up.  But like I said, don't worry about it, if you are good shape, you'll be fine.  You aren't expected to know anything.  It would help if you memorize the Army general orders and the Soldiers Creed, even the Army Song.  Also, not sure how much sleep you get, but start cutting down, get used to a 5AM wake up, and stay up till about 11 PM,  In basic you will be taking turns w/ the other guys in your platoon doing fire guard duty during the night, normally it's an hour shift.

  2. You should of went Air Force.

  3. look i'm on active duty, graduated basic in dec of 07, just make sure you can score at least a 60% in each category before you go and you will have no problems whatsoever in basic training. It really is not that bad.

  4. im in the same boat.. but im getting ready for the navy bootcamp. its their job to break you down to make you feel like you are nothing and then to build you back up and make you feel confident. Its like making you hit rock bottom to them make you reach the top... just continue your running and do lots of cardio .. and when they are yelling at you .. dont look them in the eyes.. and block them out.. sing mary had a little lamb if you have to ;]

  5. I think working out before you go will help no matter how short notice it is. But push-ups are the best things to practice. The drill instructors had us doing a lot of push-ups. Also holding our M16's out in front of us or over our head. So make sure your arms are ready for that. There are also other ways of getting "smoked" that you can't prepare for. If your platoon isn't moving fast enough, you better believe that your going to have to it again but you get even less time. Just be prepared to do things over and over again. I guess another thing to learn is all the ranks of the army and your chain of command. From Commander in Chief to who your First Sergeant is at basic. We got asked that in the chow line and if you didn't know the answer, end of the line....

    Good luck!!!

  6. They will make sure you are prepared.  My son worried about that, too, but he found out that the preparation wasn't really necessary.  You have passed the physical, and that is all you need to worry about right now.  Here is an important piece of information for you. It's their job to make you mad, it's your job not to get mad.  Good luck to you.

  7. Do push ups

    Memorize the following:

    How to report enemy information, AKA a Salute report

    S= size

    A = activity

    L = location

    T = time

    E = equipment

    How to clear an M-16 series rifle:

    Remember SPORTS

    S = Slap up on your magazine

    P = Pull the charging handle to the rear

    O = Observe the chamber for brass or ammo

    R = Release the charging handle

    T = Tap the forward assist

    S = Shoot!

    Know your chain of command, your general orders and try to blend in! Never be first or last.

    Good luck and thanks for joining the team!
