Preparing for USAF BMT

Question

I'm within the two week mark before i ship out to bMT and I just have two questions.

Do I need to buy the shower shoes and the white new balances before i leave or when i get to basic?

Also, I have shampoo and toothpaste and all that but how am i supposed to get that through the security clearance at the airport?

You'll buy everything at the PX. Take shower shoes if you want, but make sure you take razors.

When I arrived at BMT I already had purchased the basics such as shower shoes and hygenic products. I brought running shoes with me that I ended up storing with the rest of my civies because they were not the NB shoes that were required. I would wait on the shoes until you arrive unless you absoloutely want to bring them with you. You will have the opportunity to purchase them before you need them. You can bring small amounts of the hygenic products with you on the plane, or larger amounts if you put it into checked baggage. Regardless, you will have the opportunity to buy anything you do not bring so don't stress over it too much. Your first night will likely be nothing more than being herded like cattle through shower heads pouring out ice-cold water prior to being yelled at a bit and a lights out call. That is how it was for me when I went to BMT in 2003. I have been separated for a year and a half now and going to college but I am considering enlisting in the Army. Civilian life is too boring and the AF wasn't much more exciting. Anyway, good luck with the AF and I hope you enjoy it.
