  1. This is what I look for in an applicant:

    *  Clean

    *  Well groomed

    *  Dressed appropriately

    *  Someone who looks me in the eye, extends his hand and says Hello

    *  Who waits until I am seated before sitting down himself

    *  Someone who at least knows a little about the company

    *  Someone who speaks clearly and assuredly (no hesitations)

    *  Someone who answers my questions & gets right to the point

    *  Someone who isn't afraid to say, "No, I don't know how to do that."

    *  Someone who doesn't bore me with too much detail

    *  Someone who doesn't mistakes aggression & arrogance for confidence

    *  Don't be afraid to let me know that you really want this job!  I would like to think that you selected this position because it's what you want rather than you are going on ten interviews today for everything from fry cook to vice president!

    In other words, I like to meet an applicant who is polite and knows what he wants at this point in his life and is excited about the prospect of getting started with our company.  I may ask questions to try to find out how much you know.  If you never reach a point where you say, "No. I've not had any experience of that kind.", I will think you are bs'ing me.

    Be concise in answering my questions.  Get to the point.  It's find to add a little something but don't go beyond that.  For instance, if I ask where you went to school, it's fine for you to say, "I graduated from Lincoln High, with honors in June 2007."  That would cover the question nicely.  Anything else would be too much.

    And above all, my biggest pet peeve, the guy who comes in gung ho who tries to bowl me over with his self importance.  Usually this type mistakes his obnoxiousness with confidence.  He couldn't be more wrong!

    And of course, be yourself.  Smile, be very pleasant and have a good time.  Act like you really are glad to be in my office and really happy to be getting the opportunity to sit for this interview.

    Leave me with a nice feeling about you.  And do email or write me to thank me for taking my time to consider you for the position
