Preparing for my last track meet?

My last track meet is in 2 days and I want to be well prepared. I'm running the mile for my event. What are some good things to eat, good streches, warm ups, etc. I really want to get rid of 10 seconds on my mile time. I also get shin splints and calf pains easily, what are some good ways to prevent that from happening? What can help with my breathing also? Thanks! :)

  1. The key is not to over do it in warmups before the Mile Run begins.  I never ran the Mile but I had a friend that did.  (I was on the Mile Relay though.)  My friend started warming up at around the 800m Relay with stretches and light running just to get his legs warmed up.

Don't eat anything to heavy--fruits and Powerade should be all you need, especially the day of the track meet.

Also, for shin splints...you need to just keep stretching.  Ice the shin splints A LOT.  Ice them right now, in the morning and when you get home from school.  Some Advil may help as well.

    GOOD LUCK!

  2. eat a heavy lunch and maybe some granola bars or grapes when you get to the meet but then dont eat until you run

start to get nice and loose (but not to loose) about 45 minutes before you run.

stretch out every muscle no matter what

to get rid of the pain try to change the way you land on your feet

you want to land on the balls of your toes

    best of luck to ya!
