Preparing for the Ashes, waking up has never been easy
The Ashes are here. The mighty players of England and Australia are completely geared up for the challenge, quite literally as pictures of the English players splashed the newspapers Wednesday mornings in full “gladiator” mode. Graeme Swann bore into the
eyes of the readers, as he caressed the red ball appearing armed and dangerous.
Cricket’s Christmas Day in which two teams, England and Australia would be vying for the urn- the world’s smallest trophy- as the greatest sporting rivalry comes to Brisbane this year.
England would be eying the victory in order to defend the coveted title of last year’s Ashes winner as well as registering a win for the first time in the past 22 years in the land Down Under.
In contrast, Australia would be looking for redemption to silence the critics after a crazy hiatus of negative publicity during recent months. http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Sri-Lanka-c758 and the many
injuries woes, which are still threatening the Aussies camp. England couldn’t have asked for a perfect build up for their Ashes campaign.
However, it all seems a bit too good for England. There is just something not right about the “ideal” situation for the Poms. Australia is like a puma, waiting to pounce and the English needs to be on their toes all times as there is a dragon, which is yet
to be slain.
Anyways, the writer does not want to get into yet another comparison of the teams and their players or how they insulted each other on Twitter. The writer, like millions of cricket enthusiasts on the planet earth is very excited about the series. But there
always has to be a catch.
The time zones prevents many people around the World to sit in their living rooms curled up on their sofa instead of going to work and facing the always grumpy and not-so-cricket enthusiastic boss.
Especially, the time zones difference between the two countries involved in the battle. The first day of the Ashes Test starts at 0000 GMT on Thursday, 25th November in Brisbane at the Gabba cricket stadium. The day’s sessions would be drawing
to a close when the sun would be rising in England.
The fans in the United Kingdom and those people who are just excited about the fact that the Ashes are here will have to adjust their sleep patterns according to the Australian time zone.
The cricket crazy people have not been sleeping well for the past two or three days as The Ashes start comes closer. The British call the pre-Ashes anxiety as “Urn Time” where the fans would be thinking about what could go wrong for their side or pray to
God that everything goes wrong for the Aussies.
However, if they want to follow ball-by-ball commentary on the radio or watch the action on their TV sets they need to have a game plan just as England’s captain Andrew Strauss and his rival counterpart Ricky Ponting would be revising right now in a comfortable,
relaxing spa.
It would be very hard to stay up all night and work all day as can be best explained by millions of students trying to study on a night before the exam. The sudden switch from day to night shakes up the brain and the body’s immune system and it takes time
to adjust to a certain change. Hence, it is necessary, if one is planning on watching in England, they need to slowly shift their sleeping patterns.
The experts, who carry out experiments on sleep, suggest that carefully timed, small naps can help a person feel energetic and the brain does not drift away into a dream the next morning.
Therefore, the Ashes preparation involves taking small naps during the match- avoid deep sleep or the head will feel very heavy- when the action slows down. The body clock will require patience, therefore do not get irritated and fidgety. Avoid alcohol and
heavy meals including sugar coated foods or drinks. Instead go for caffeine and enjoy the Ashes in good company, those who are sure to stimulate you during the match.
Just a side note, do not drive if you have stayed up all night, The Ashes are not worth your life.
