  1. In highschool, I played in a volleyball club during offseason.  However, if you're not looking to spend money, you can practice volleyball with one other person.  In the summer, I took a rope and tied it from a tree to a ladder and practiced serving and hitting over the next with my sister.

  2. yea i disagree with wes and agree with bigA.

    It totally depends on what level you play. But anyways...if you are going into highschool, and have never played...there are a couple things that you need to know so you have a better chance making the team. One thing is over hand serve. Get a ball, and if you can, try to get a net. Nets are like $25 at walmart. Not to expensive. And practice your over hand serve.That is what they really look for in players. The other thing is get to the gym and work out. Try to run a mile in less then 8 minutes and just tone your legs and arms up good. Another thing that has helped me is plyometrics. Go to youtube and search that and it will give you lots of different ideas what to do. work on fast feet and shuffling back, forward, side to side really fast. You have to be able to move fast in a game. Stairs is what i do all the time and it has helped. jump up the stairs on one foot, then run down, jump up again on the other, then down, then jump up with your feet together, then run down, and so on.. there are lots of different ways to do stairs. And like the first answer..get lots of sleep before tryouts, you want to be doing your best when that time comes. Try to cut out fatty foods and eat protein. Drink lots of water, and stretch out as much as possible...just make sure your lean and your ready to go baby doll...;

    good luck on making the team. And if you want any other tips ...email me... I have tons

  3. do squats and pass the ball to yourself by using the platforms of your arm so it wont turn red and lift weights ,run, and sleep

  4. Not to tell you that volleyball is not a demanding sport but you really don't need to condition very much i just suggest line drills and like sprints but the bottom line is don't really need to worry about conditioning much

    Just practice hitting the ball like up against a wall and just stuff like that.

  5. I disagree with Wes....volleyball can be a very aerobic activity, it really depends on the level of play. But you should always be moving in volleyball, so work on your stamina. Ankle weights will help slightly, but the biggest thing you could do for yourself is go out to as many camps as you can. Work on things like flexibility and core exercises (when done properly the power of the spike is mostly generated from the core of the body). If you can't get to camps to learn the skills, read about them and work on the postures during the summer (to list them here would make this a very long answer, so if you need help with those, e-mail me through here).

    There is one skill that I consider to be the most important in volleyball....and that's movement. I know a lot of people would disagree with me, but if you can't move quickly and get into proper positioning, everything that follows is like a house built on quick sand.

    Good luck!
