Prepay gas?

Question

I was told that people used to be able to purchase gas cards for a set amount of gallons at todays prices and use it towards gas in the future like a gift card. The price of gas never matters because you have already paid for the amount of gallons your getting. Does anyone know if this is something that gas stations still do? If so, what gas stations and are they any specifics? THANKS!!!

I get gift cards from credit card companies, but they are valued in dollars, not gallons, so they are like cash and their purchasing power depends on fluctuations in gas prices.
