Preschool age question....

My daughter has never been in childcare and I was thinking of putting her in preschool a few days a week to learn how to make friends, get used to a school setting, etc. She will be two yrs old soon. I was thinking of enrolling her somewhere between 2.5 and 3 years. What are the pros and cons of enrolling her at this age? Is this too soon? There are waiting lists for the preschool I chose for her, so I have to put myself on the waiting list now to get her in at 2.5 years.

  1. I don't think it's too soon.  I've have had my daughter on a wait list since she was 10 months old.  My daughter turned 3 in May and will be starting pre-school in a few weeks.  She will be going 2 days a week for 4 hours a day.  I am sending her so she can socialize with other children and learn new things.  She is extremely excited.

I am not looking forward to the other habits she may pick up from other children, like hitting, yelling and etc.  I am also not looking forward to all the germs she will be bringing home as I have a 7 week old.

    Good Luck!

  2. I think its great. They get to play and do art activities and  the one my child went to had monthly field trips which she loved. And the holiday parties are a lot of fun for them also.

My oldest had 2 years of preschool and my youngest one due to bladder issues.

Get on the waiting list you can always say no if you do not feel she is ready, but its hard when you want them to go and they cant because you did not get on the list.

  3. It depends on your child. I started preschool at 3, for the same reasons you want to start your child. I loved it. But no two kids are the same, so you really need to decide based on what you know of your child and how she reacts to new situations.

Personally, I think it's a great idea- the additional interaction will be very good for her, and she will be exposed to new things and new ideas. I would say go for it!
