  1. Any activity that kids do can turn into something that uses large muscles and body parts as long as it is done properly.  In the following website you will find plenty http://www.redshift.com/~bonajo/michelle...

  2. -Water painting-outside on the wall-the children can stretch up tall and wide which you cant do on paper! And you dont have to worry about mess :)

-Wallpaper-put wall paper along the floor or up on the wall and children can do large scale paintings or drawings...would make nice display.

-Also with wallpaper-lay it on the floor kids can use feet or wellies to tred in paint and walk, jump, hop etc along paper to see effect.

-Threading/weaving: use large green garden wirre(make sure its plastic coated and supervised-children can thread through differenet materials and push things into the holes to make a structure that cna be left outside your room for parents to see. We did it with selection of ribbon, bottle tops (with string), wool, streamers, tinsel, bells tied on etc. Kids loved it and was large motor skills because they reached high, tip toed etc.

-Performance art: Music and movements: dancing creatively to music eg: Goldilocks and 3 Bears-what music would daddy bear have and how would he move? Dance like a leaf in the wind etc etc even action songs from a CD is a gross motor opportunity and performance art/dance is considered art!

-As above: put on a play where kids use their imagination and role play skills (which comes under creative development in the Foundation Stage curriculum)....can be something simple like a wellknown story you read in setting, we used the story of Diwali and it went really well!

Look on www.teachers.tv for great programmes which give ideas!

  5. there are lots of fun things you can do with art and gross motor. get out a box of sidewalk chaulk on a nice day and go outside. the kids can draw, create roads (bring out some small cars/trucks/etc.), make jumping/hop scotch games, etc.

or get your hands on colorful butcher paper. get a nice long piece of it for each child. take it outside (or on a wipe-off-able floor) and give them different supplies. they can use foam balls dipped in a bit of paint to throw the ball on the paper to make a picture. or use small cars dipped in paint, the wheels make fun tracks and pretty soon they'll be moving all round their paper. if you're feeling really messy, dip a jump rope in some paint, have them jump rope on the paper, or just drag the rope around like a giant painting snake.

hope these give you some jumping off ideas. i like messy art though...so put them in giant t-shirts or smocks before you get them started.

  6. tape a large sheet of bulletin board paper to the wall outside.  Have children stand back several feet and throw sponges, a nylon sock filled with popcorn etc that have been dipped in paint.  Tape paper to a slide and roll various balls dipped in paint down the slide.

ride trikes, bikes and other wheeled toys across paper after driving through paint.

    Create class murals.
