  1. Sure, go for it!

  2. If you dont want to do any of the financial side then you should look into a career as Lead Practitioner or an Deputy as you'll then have a manager or owner to take over finances (of cos any 'lead' job will involve you sticking to a budget, ensuring parents pay fees, ensure you have receipts for purchases etc)

I wouldnt think about owning you're own preschool yet-when you get into Upper School strudying Childcare and do work experience placements at various settings so you can see if you still enjoy it. You are saying all the fun stuff about childcare like decorating and spending time with kids but you havent experiences all the negatives and difficulties either:

    -Planning and Next Steps

-Ensuring you are ready for OFSTED inspections

    -Dealing with behavioural issues

-Dealing with parents who can be really awkward

-Keeping to all the different laws and legisltaions

    -Endless training

-Your free time is using taken over by mountains of paperwork, training, meetings etc.

I'm not saying childcare isnt fun its just not as easy and it may appear!

ps: If you go to college do an NVQ rather than BTech and I've found by talking to people that NVQ students find placements and childcare jobs quicker than BTech because of the practical experience!

  3. I too want to start my own preschool and am looking for information on it as well. I think you should go for it. Even though you are young, you can still do it if you want when you get older. Don't let people tell you that you can't. I say go for it! Good Luck.

  4. I think you need to finish school - and then train in an area of child care before you think of opening your own pre-school.

Running your own business, is more than spending time with the childre, but it is all the financial aspects, staffing issues etc.

Try contacting a pre school to see if you could go and visit and decide if you like that sort of thing, before you make any final decisions

  5. You're in middle school. It's much, much, much too early to be considering -anything- like creating a pre-school.

If anything, get a job for now and save up to maybe do it much, much later in the future. It's way too much work, especially for someone as young as you are.

Besides, I'm not sure parents would allow their kids to go to a pre-school run by a middle schooler.

  6. Starting a nursery can be a very expensive business. I own my own nursery - the hardest thing is to find a suitable building to set up in, in an area which hasn't already got enough nursery provision.

But, before you even think about all that, you need to get as much experience as possible and as many qualifications as you can.

It's lots of fun and no two days are the same, but there are lots of downsides to it, and there really isn't very much money in it. There are also a massive amount of regulations you have to abide by.

So, take your time, learn as much as you can about child development, and when you're ready, find yourself a reliable business partner to share the burden!

    Good luck :-)

  7. Why don't you look at a birth to kindergarten license through a four year college.  The pay is higher and they almost always have assistants to help with the busy work.  You could work for a public or private school or a wealthy family as nanny.

  8. You are certainly on the ball for such a young lady.   Why don't you try shadowing someone in the field and see if this is something you would want to pursue.   Owning a business does require financial "stuff" - there is a lot of administrative work involved. It's not just playing with children.

  9. i own my own daycare and preschool.  You should get a job working at one when you are old enough to work at one.  That  way you can see how it is working at one.  its alot of trouble with all of the regulations that you have to follow with state laws.  you dont make alot of money doing it cause your overhead it too high.  the parents and employees are sometimes hard to deal with.  you should really work at one first and move up the ladder by being a director at one before you spend alot of money making your own.

  10. I manage a nursery for under 5's but all my time is spent on finances, paperwork, government forms,  getting parents to pay their rent, sorting out problems for staff, managing problems in building eg leaks, broken equipement,

As a manager or owner you never get time to play with the children - don't forget you have to supervise staff, sort out their issues with each other, get privately annoyed when staff are sick and you have to pay them sick leave and get another member of staff to cover them, you have to manage those who do nto work hard enough and most of all they have to respect you and follow you.yes you get to decorate nursery but you have to make sure that how you set up complies with OFSTED (if in UK - will be similar in other countreis) this states how much space per child, number of sinks and loos per child etc.

I would suggest you get a child care qualification (you will soon need a qualification at degree level to manage a nursery in UK).  You need this so you can support staff and make sure best provision for children

Then i would suggest you get a job working in nursery for a few years so you can learn all you need to know

It is a very hard job and poorly paid - i work 7.30 -  6.30 most days and often bring planning, staff rotas and finances to do in evening or at weekend.

I manage children centre for local council so better paid then private ones.  Expect to lose money for a few years before you make some.  You would need major loan from bank to set up - they would require business plan and so finances v important

Long post full of details cos job is long and full of details
