Preschool teacher in California?

How do I become a preschool teacher in Cali? Do I really only need 12 units of ECE? I took classes in high school as a preschool aide, so I know that I really enjoy working with children, but I'm just not sure which classes I need to start or whatever it takes.

  1. I worked in a preschool in CA for 3 years, and at that time all you needed was 12 units.  Contact a local preschool to find out for sure. I think they just need to be any 12 units, but some schools might want them to be specific classes.

  2. In order to be alone as a teacher in a class, you will need at least 12 ECE college units.  You can have less, but you will be considered an "aide" and will not make as much money.  The more units you have, the more money you will make.  You also have to be at least 18 years of age.  Find the Title 22 regulations on the internet.  It will tell you everything that you need to know about qualifications.  The core classes are Child Psych and Child Sociology.  It is different at each college, but you need to find the child developement courses and take those.  Some schools might have human developement, but like I said, it depends on the school.  What ever you took in HS WILL NOT count.  Avoid KinderCare and TutorTime.  They are horrible.  Let me know if you need anymore help.  Good luck!
