Question:

Prescription Sunglasses - do I need all the extras?

I'm going to get some prescription sunglasses. It seems the place is charging a lot for lots of extra add ons. Do I need all these add ons?

If I get a mirror coating, do I also need the polarization and the anti-reflective coating?

Are some of these the same? Or do they all really make a difference?

  1. UV protection is a must.

  2. polarized lenses are the only thing that truly help keep your eyes protected form uv rays, and the anti reflective coating helps protect against scratching and normally comes with a one year warranty. your best bet is to get the polarized lenses to truly protect your eyes from the rays and the anti reflective coating (especially if your prescription doesn't change every year, you can wait till the month before the warranty expires to get new lenses that way you don't have to purchase new ones next year!) i have never hear of the mirror coating, so i cant tell you my personal opinion on that. Hope this helps!

  3. Polarising is very helpful, I would say it is the most important improvement and well worth the extra money. Next is an anti-reflective coating - some people find more benefit from this than others. A mirror coating really is not going to give you any benefits other than if you like the cosmetic appearance of it.

  4. All you need are anti-reflective coating and anti-scratch. You don't need all the other things.
