Prescription Xanax and jail?

I was arrested for a 2nd dui (8 years after my first one). I am prescribed xanax for panic disorder, generalized anxiety and social anxiety. When I was in jail they didn't let me take my meds. I was going through some bad withdrawels. I have to do work furlough for a month, meaning work in the day and go to this facility at night. Will they allow me to take my meds? I really don't wanting them calling me doctor about this. I don't abuse xanax and it has helped immensely with my panic attacks.

  1. Work release inmates are seen by the nursing staff when they return to jail.  This is so that they do not get high during the day, and then try to bring that high, or the stuff they used, into the jail that night.  If you have a prescription you must have it on file with the nurses, along with the doctors orders on how it is to be dispensed.  That is the only way you can still take it.

  2. If you to show them proof of your prescription. Most likely they will have to notify your doctor, weather you like it or not.

The funny thing is you said you don't abuse your meds. Drinking on xanax is abusing your meds. YOU ARE NOT SUPPOSED TO DRINK ON BENZO'S! Read the label. No wonder you got a DUI.

  3. You can contact your attorney and have him submit a medical request for the court to order so you receive your meds.  Many inmates are on lots of meds in custody.  Why do you care if your MD knows?  Anyway, everything he knows is privileged and confidential... and he already prescribed the medication before.
