I am in high school. Last year I was prescribed glasses with -.5 in each eye. Now I was told I have -1.25, and am getting new glasses. This is about 6 months later. It this a unhealthy drop in vision? And at 1.25 should I wear glasses all the time?

  1. My eye doctor said that if you don't wear your glasses your vision will get worse.  But, if you wear your glasses it also will get worse, but slowly.  So I would recommend wearing your glasses.

  2. It is not unhealthy or uncommon for vision to worsen like that.  Eyesight changes as we grow and usually stabilizes in our twenties.

Your optometrist would be best to answer when you should wear them, but with a small prescription like that, you will probably want to wear them while driving, reading the board in school, and watching TV.  You don't have to wear them while doing nearwork (reading, homework, computer if you can see it clearly without them) and it may strain your eyes a little if you do.  Usually the best advice is wear them when you need them to see clearly.

  3. Take them offf for reading.

  4. This isn't a drastic change .

Your Dr.(Optometrist)  needs to tell you if you need to wear at all times.
