Will a clinic doctor refill a prescription that is part of a course of ongoing medications (ie. anti-depressants) that was not originally prescribed by him, but prescribed by my family doctor? (the clinic does not have a file on me)

  1. I am assuming your regular GP is on vacation/away from the office and you are referring to a 'walk-in' clinic?  I think it would depend on the type of medication you are talking about and keep in mind regulations/laws maybe different from one locale to another.

What may happen is the clinic doc will give you only enough of a prescription to last until you can get in to see your regular GP, say 7 days worth or the like.  You can except to answer many questions as they need to ascertain you are not trying to 'double doctor'!  I know how annoying it can be to realize you should have seen you regular GP sooner...Best of Luck!

  2. Yes, a clinic doctor will refill a prescription that is part of a course of ongoing medications (ie. anti-depressants) that was not originally prescribed by him/her, but prescribed by your family doctor. Even medications which a MD can't directly prescribe, do get prescript by them after getting a confirmation of any specialist/s involved in the treatment of that particular patient.

  3. They may, if it is not a controlled drug. Usually they will give you enough to tide you over until you can get the records from your previous physician.  Be sure to present the Rx bottle, not just your say-so.  If the Rx is for a controlled drug, they may well refuse to until you present records. Being too liberal with controlled drugs is a good way to lose your license to practice.
