  1. Think fairies, princesses, paints, pencils, books, dvd, a doll house.

  2. Try a kids tent she would love it...

we bought one for my little sisters and they spend hours in it..

eating lunch playing dolls reading and it gives you some peace and quiet...

you could then buy her little pieces to use inside it such as colouring books, a torch, sleeping bag little things that she will be able to enjoy for ages!!!

    happy birthday to her!!! x*x

  3. You can buy her a bouncy castle. they sell them you can even get them with balls. They come with a pump and can be turned off and packed right back up into a nice 3 ft by 3ft box and stored. My son had a bouncy play yard. They are great.

You could get her a bike.

  4. My mum and I have just gone halves on this for my niece who turns 4 in August:

My own daughter had it for Christmas and plays with it loads.

They do a matching ambulance and helicopter.

(I shopped around and paid £40 not £60 but I can't remember which website I used)

  5. doll's house?  if she already has one, she may be ready to go on to the more grown-up kind with smaller items.

a climbing frame, wendy house, garden tent or play shed would be good - you just have to explain to her that she can't play with it until after the party when the bouncy castle has been taken down.  she's old enough now to understand that she can't have everything at once.  if she makes a big fuss, tell her that she can have a few friends round to play with her new toy one evening in the week, or you can have a smaller present to give to her on the day.  alternatively you could take down the trampoline to accommodate the bouncy castle.  several of the children in our family have woken up on the morning of their birthday to discover a new climbing frame in the garden - but this invariably means daddy spending hours messing around trying to put up a climbing frame from a badly-instructioned flatpack in the dark.

a dressing up box is also a good present - you could give her a chest full of fancy dress clothes on the morning of her party and then have a fancy dress party that she can wear the outfits at... and then she'll have them available for creative play afterwards.  as well as this, if you don't want to make it a fancy dress party from the off, you could have dressing-up as an activity on the day, and perhaps get the children to paint themselves a face mask to wear.

my niece got a pet rabbit for her fourth birthday.  this has worked very well, although bunny 1 had a heart condition and died soon afterwards.  my niece was heartbroken for a little while but when bunny 2 was acquired she learned that this is sometimes the way with pet animals.  when her uncle died later in the year, my sister was extremely glad that my niece had already had some experience of losing a loved one as she was much better able to understand and deal with the loss.   having said that, any pets that you get will need to be cared for by you.  you can give your child responsibility for feeding the pet and filling the water bottle, but you will have to remind her yourself every day, and cleaning the cage and making sure it gets enough exercise are too responsible for a child of that age.

  6. Get her a puppy, kitten, rabbit, or whatever.  She'll love animals.

  7. dolls are good at that age, something like baby anabel with head movements etc, you can get loads of accessories to go with it too.

  8. Inflatable water slide?  I saw one of these at a friends BBQ the other week.  It was fab!  You pump it up and water comes out of a hose at the top of the slide and runs down to a small pool at the bottom so the kids make a splash when they land. The kids at the party loved it and they were all about 4 or 5. I think it came from woolworths or argos and was about £50.
