Why has the number of terms a President can serve change over time?

  1. I hope it doesn't change.  I can't stand the thought of Bush being in for another 4 years.  That is why I'm not voting for McLame, err McCain sorry.


  2. It hasn't really changed. Washington set the two term maximum because he did not want to rule like a king. The only President to serve more than two terms is FDR. He served three terms because neither he nor the country felt it right to change presidents during a time of crisis (World War II).
