what was your reaction about president Arroyo's State of the Nation Address last july 28, 2008 in terms of economic issue? in politics and governance?

In terms of economic issue - PGMA spoke of the  country's economic situation.  The economists of the administration made a report on our improved economic situation brought about by the efficient eVAT collection.  I agree to this report, however, it has resulted to rapid increase in the price of oil and by-products, so that the domino effect is on the transportation cost, price increase, and demand for higher salaries and wages and other services. Although there is no VAT in the grocery itsm and farm products that we buy in the grocery stores, VAT is still added to the total cost what we buy. There is a need for our economic advisers to discuss this particular issue and have a  dialogue with the leaders of those who are against this economic policy.  The main objective i very laudable and desirable but the plight of the poor must be given attention.

On politics - PGMA was very frank in saying that if the report has reached the millions of Filipinos and when they see that things are really happening, then they see and experience what the national government has been doing for the plight of the poor and for upliftment of the standard of living, politics should be set aside.  On my part, I believe that if the basic services are provided to the people and if these aservices are for the general welfare of the Filipinos, people should not think about vested interest of  the President as head of a political party or she is doing this for the sake of those who are running for positions in 2010.

On governance - I believe that whoever sits as President of the Republic should be respected and no leader will work for the country's downfall.  As an economist by profession, our President has brilliant economic advisers who assist her in the implementation of socio-economic plans for the development of our country.  Regardless of ones political afiliation, iof it is for the good of our country and people, everyone is expected to cooperate with the officials as law-abiding citizens of the Republic.
