President Barack Obama not planning to intervene in the NBA Labour Dispute
The United States of America emerged as the most powerful country of the world after the World War 2. In fact, it wouldn’t be wrong to say that USA is controlling the economy of this globalized world and has been doing so for quite
some time now.
The US president is considered to be the most powerful man on this planet and history has proved whatever he covets, he gets it in the end.
However there is one thing even American President has no control on.
The NBA lockout.
Being a hardcore fan of game himself, US President Barack Obama recently revealed how heartbroken he was with all the developments in the labour issue and how much the thought of whole season getting terminated freaks him out.
But despite all the power he possesses, Obama has made clear that he won’t intervene in the lockout. According to him, this brawl between owners and players should be solved by the concerned parties.
Last Friday, Obama attended a high profile college basketball game on USS Carl Vinson. After the game, the President was asked of his views on the NBA dispute;
“It’s killing me but I’m not going to intercede. I’ve got some bigger fish to fry. In a contest between billionaires and millionaires, they should be able to figure out how to divvy up their profits in a way that serves their fans,
who are allowing them to be making all this money — not to mention all the folks who work in the concession stands and in the parking lots of facilities all across the country”
A wise and a justified move indeed.
Obama has many other issues to take care of, with the derailing economy and the wars being right at the top of the list. No doubt, he enjoys the power he possesses but with power comes enormous responsibilities.
If you compare the NBA lockout with those problems, it will appear as a joke.
And also that this fight between players and union has now turned into fight of egos, there is deemed to be a winner and a loser at the end. Even if Obama intervenes and brings it to an end, critics will come into play and defame
him arguing, if lockout was that important that he spent the time that he could have used in solving other major problems country is facing?
A smart individual like him planning to take part in next elections would obviously not take such a risky decision that would hurt his chances of getting elected again.
