President Barack Obama sceptical of New York Jets’ two quarterback debate – NFL News
President Barack Obama has been very vocal in recent times in analysing various aspect of his favourite game and he recently shared his views about the buzz that has been created at New York Jets because of their quarterbacks.
Talking to WBNS-FM in Columbus, Ohio, on Thursday, August 02, 2012, the President said:
"I gotta tell you, I dont like the idea of a quarterback controversy at the start of a season. So if I was a Jets fan, I'd be pretty nervous. Sanchez is not Tom Brady yet, but he led them to the playoffs two years in a row. I think Tim Tebow seems to be
a wonderful young man, and he's got just a great winning attitude. He really steps up when things count."
Jets’ quarterback competition has taken various turns during this offseason. Obama further said:
“But there's going to be a lot of tension in that situation. So it'll be pretty interesting to see how it plays itself out."
First it was not known who will be their starter quarterback. Then it was announced that Sanchez will be the starter quarterback with Tebow being his backup.
Sanchez started training camp very well, showing no fatigue of the break. On the other hand, Jets have many plans to utilise a dynamic player like Tebow.
First head coach Rex Ryan hinted that Tebow will also play role of kickoff returner in the special team. Yet his output was average at best.
Recently, Tebow practised in the goal-line sequence and excelled tremendously. He was even praised by Sanchez for his good performance.
Tebow was outstanding last season while playing for Denver Broncos. He managed to score 12 touchdowns, getting six interceptions while covering 1,729 yards. Half of the scores were rushing touchdown.
Tebow will take the President’s comments as a compliment, but he must refrain from complacency and focus on his game so as to be at his best during the season.
