President and CEO of Texas Rangers, Nolan Ryan, sums up Game 2 delay in ALCS – MLB Playoffs
The Texas Rangers are 1-0 up in the American League Championship Series against the Detroit Tigers. After picking up a defiant 3-2 victory against their opponents in Game 1, the two teams were set to collide in the Game 2 for the League title. Unfortunately
the fight never ensued as the Rangers and Tigers had their match delayed due to rain. President and CEO of the Texans, Nolan Ryan was present on Sunday, October 9 to explain the situation.
"With the forecast that we had ... we didn't want to experience what we did last night; and with the forecast for this evening, it appears that it's going to be duplication of what we saw last night," Ryan said. "I think the one thing we're concerned about
is the integrity of the game and not [putting] either team in a situation where possibly the elements could affect the outcome of the game."
By last night, Ryan referred to Game 1 that was marred by rain twice. The venue experienced constant showers throughout the proceedings of the game. Rangers Ballpark in Arlington paves for extreme heating conditions during the summer but the ballpark has
been experiencing a change in weather forecast for the last few days.
Rangers and the Tigers will still house the same starting pitchers for Game 2 and it seems the stage is set for the series to go ahead on Monday, October 10. Ryan took the opportunity to explain how the decision for Game 2 came forth. Major League Baseball
commissioner Bud Selig met with officials from both teams and Vice President of MLB, Joe Torre to relay the decision passed from the Arlington Office.
The President went on to say that the matter dealt with just collecting information and making a decision.
With the game set for Monday, the Tigers have good news as Justin Verlander is now confirmed to start on Game 5 against the Rangers. Both teams will be looking to come out strong early in the game, as rain could wreak havoc with series.
