President of German Volleyball Federation decides to quit after Olympics – Volleyball News
Werner von Moltke, the president of German Volleyball Federation (DVV) has announced to step down from his position after the completion of 2012 London Olympic Games.
Werner von Moltke took over as the President of Deutscher Volleyball-Verband (DVV) in 1997. He worked for the betterment of volleyball in Germany and played an instrumental role in organising some of the major international volleyball events. He was the key person behind the success of 2002 Women’s World Volleyball Championship in Germany. Moreover, he contributed to the overall growth and success of the indoor and beach volleyball in the region.
His term was supposed to complete in 2013, but he decided to quit before the specified period of time. His official statement says, “I am still committed to the sport, because I love it, I love the athletes and I did everything with much pleasure. As I am about to quit, I think my legacy is a well-organized institution”.
In the meanwhile, the German Volleyball Federation has started looking for an appropriate replacement. The special committee of DVV, which is responsible to pick a suitable candidate, has shifted all its attention to Mr. Thomas Krohne.
Krohne is already attached with German Volleyball Federation, but as a chairman.
In addition, he is also the Chief Executive Officer of the Munich-based sportsman media group. He proved his potential as a player, coach, and also performed his duties as a referee for many years. He has the right profile to take up the influential position of DVV president after von Moltke.
Speaking of demanding job of president, Krohne shared his thoughts in the following manner. He stated, “The DVV presidency is an enormous challenge for me especially as I would like to contribute to the development and modernization of Volleyball in Germany. I deserve much respect to Werner von Moltke and his achievements in the past 15 years. My first goals are to guarantee financial stability to the federation as well as to fully exploit the opportunities disclosed by the new media.”
The German Volleyball Federation has declared to hold a special farewell ceremony on August 25, in the honour of von Moltke.
