Presidential Coins?

Ive been seeing an ad for presidential dollar coins in never circulated condition in practically every newspaper I open. Why is the government offering this deal? I called them up one day and it seemed not too bad, would any one ever consider buying these coins?

  1. Weeelll, if you can convince people to buy things that cost mere pennies to make for more than what the coin is even worth you stand to make some money. I don't see why anyone would want them, really... they're making a ton of them (not exactly the best collectible out there) and you can just order rolls from your bank if you want to toss a few around.

  2. They are making them in the hope that they will catch on and the feds can lower circulation of the dollar bill.  Coins are much cheaper in the long run than dollar bills so if people will use them it will save the government some money.
