ok when I was really young I was told I was related to U.S. Grant and that made me really into history....I read like 20 or so books and I came across one that said FDR himself was related somehow to eight other presidents...from their I was able to link 22 presidents as of being related to each other in someway. does anyone know of a good source of genology to find this information again?

  1. You could try these two books.

Ancestors of American Presidents, 1995, Boston, Massachusetts , Roberts, Gary Boyd, Reference: 1

Living descendants of Blood Royal in America , Angerville, Count d', Reference: 17

    I happened across references to these books yesterday when I was checking out this website at;

    http://genealogics.org/index.php

It's called Leo's Genealogics Website and it is large and very thorough.  I found it quite amazing.

I think you'd also be interested in the website of the New England Historic Genealogical Society.

    Their link is http://www.newenglandancestors.org/

Specifically, there is an article in the Education Center titled,

Genealogical Thoughts by Gary Boyd Roberts #42

Yankee Ancestors, Mayflower Lines, and Royal Descents

and Connections of Arthur Ochs Sulzberger, Jr.

This is written by the same author of , 'Ancestors of

    American Presidents.'

I found his writing informative and it contained ancesteral connections between US Presidents. Give these a try.

I hope this helps. Good luck in your search.

  2. Being "related" is a very vague term.  8th cousin 6x removed is related, but hardly exciting news.  If you go back far enough, we are ALL related.  That is because at a point it gets to be that the number of ancestors we have exceed the population of the planet.  I have a number of presidential distant cousins.  I am hardly excited about it.

What IS exciting and is way more important are who are your direct ancestors.  Then you can say that so-and-so is your great-grandfather (however many 'greats' need to be inserted); and that you have that person's genes, and that you owe your existence to them.  Don't get so hung up on distant cousins.  It doesn't matter or count for anything.

  3. Ancestry.com is a good site for creating your family tree (or uploading your existing tree) and then you can click on "find famous relatives".  From there you look at the list of possible connections to former presidents then you use their resources (marriage, census records, etc.) to verify your connection.

Another good site you could look up former presidents with family trees that contain thousands of relatives is rootsweb.com.  For instance, this link is a family tree for Ulysses S. Grant (and over 86,000 ancestors and descendents):

    http://worldconnect.rootsweb.com/cgi-bin...

And just an interesting note from wikipedia.com:

Current President George W. Bush is related to other presidents as well as Pierce, who he is also related to on his father's side via Daniel Brewer. He is also a cousin of Fillmore (via Millards), Lincoln (via Gilmans), Grant (via Lathrops). Hayes (via Smiths, Footes, Parmelees, and Huckinses), Garfield (via Wheelers, Carpenters, Cookes, Warrens, Holbrooks, and Arnolds), Cleveland (via Smiths and Stanleys), Theodore Roosevelt (via Schuylers), Taft (via Holbrooks, Thayers, Haywards, Cookes, Footes, Ravenses, Waterses, and Shermans), Coolidge (via Phillipses, Hortons, Garnseys, Pulsiphers, Ravenses, Richardsons, Moores, Bulkeleys, and Morses), Hoover (via Brookses, Reades, Wheelers, Richardsons, and Shermans), Franklin Roosevelt (via Beekmans, Hutchinsons, Popes, Jenneys, Richardses, Palgraves, Lathrops, and Howlands), Nixon (via Lippincotts, Footes, Traverses, Morses, and Howlands), and Ford (via Vanderburghs, Wheelers, Marvins, Gilmans, and Howlands).

  4. Supposedly d**k Cheney & Barrack Obama are distantly related as well.  I think I did see somewhere the lineage of FDR being related to 8 other presidents.  I know George Washington and Thomas Jefferson were in that mix, besides Teddy Roosevelt.
