  1. It's clearly chopped and edited, but I would love to hear the whole thing. I'm sure there's some great points. Being a part of the Jewish faith we study the Torah and the rest of the Tanakh up and down and even we are all about finding different interpretations and applications of scripture. I would love to hear what he says abut Leviticus. Yes, it bans homosexual intercourse, but it also bans the eating of shellfish, calling them an abomination as well (a delicious abomination at that ;) ) and I know them Baptists loves their shrimp and crawfish. It's easy to take soundclips from anyone and make conclusions. But what they miss is the overall message of what's being said. I'm much more offended by Bush (and now Palin) using the name of God to justify the "right" to make war.

/If you fail at life, thumbs down me please.

BTW: Here's a link to the full unedited speech with transcript. Which you can even see him make some sincere and heartfelt revelations of what the scriptures say to him.

  2. I don't care if he did make fun of a 2000 year old book that is full of contradictions. Even though Obama is baptist, I don't make my vote based on whether some one is a christian or not.

  3. i do not think he was mocking the bible. i do think he was ridiculing people who pick and chose among biblical texts to support whatever agenda they have.  as if god was supporting their opinion.  i have often thought myself that people spend more time reading the bible to find isolated passages to support their individual idea rather than in reading the bible to understand god's message to us. the narrator of the you tube piece you link above mocks obama's biblical references and his understanding of them. he sarcastically asserts that the sermon on the mount does not advise us to turn the other cheek to terrorists.  i just reread god's sermon on the mount. i was struck anew by the eloquent and beautiful message asking us to love and care for each other, and indeed to "love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and them which despitefully use you, persecute you. that you may be the children of your father in heaven.  i didn't see anything in the entire sermon (king james version) that said love your enemies unless they are muslim, or terrorists, or afghan or whatever.  from the beginning to end jesus exhorts us to be loving, giving, forgiving, merciful, non-judgemental, etc.etc,etc.  no exceptions.  he acknowledges the difficulty of acting in these ways, saying "narrow is the way which leadest unto life, and few there be that find it."                                         although i've read nothing that makes me think obama is exceptionally devout, i do think he is a very spiritual man who tries very hard to live the words of god.  reread the sermon for yourself and see if there is any basis for the narrator's belief that god intended to exclude al queda from this instruction to us.  i myself think it is often hard to understand messages in the bible.  people are always speaking with great authority that when jesus says this or that it means precisely what they believe, while i think the words are more complex.but the words in the sermon are simple and clear but folks twist them to suit themselves. as i think this narrator put his own - - wrong - - spin on what obama was saying.  isn't it sad that the narrator was so clearly behaving so contrarily to god's message?

  4. I don't think it was out of context.  He was pretty specific.  He quoted chapter and verse!

  5. The anti-Christ would be more intelligent than Obama.
