Press Release Help?

I just started writing for a newspaper and am doing an article on a film series being shown at the local museum. My editor sent me the press release for the series, but I'm not really sure how to incorporate it into my article. Do I copy it word for word, or do I just take snippets from it? Please help me!!!

  1. You don't copy it. Unless you did quote it, but you really don't have to (not with AP style).

Just add a sentence with the information.  Such as:

The film series will begin on July XX with (if there was a list of the films on the release, use some of the titles here).

Snippets, in other words. But make them your own. Some sentences might end up the same, but I am sure you can find a way to differentiate them.

    Good luck!

  2. Quote from it as you would a source.

Anything you use, say "according to a press release sent June XX, ......" and so on.

when attributing from a written thing, be it email or press release, say "according to"
