After winning all opening games of the Ligue 1 campaign, Les Phoceens stand proud on the summit of the Championnat, something that has been duly noted and praised by the French media all around
Things are looking far better than they seemed a few months back at the Canebiere. After a poor showing last season in which they finished devoid of Champions League football, Ligue 1 giants http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Olympique-de-Marseille-c40127 knew that tough times lay ahead.
Didier Deschamps chose to jump a ship that was pretty much in dire straits. In came Elie Baup, a man whose last stint as a manager was back in 2009 with Nantes with whom he had a win percentage of just 26.
However, things could not have been better for Les Phoceens. Before the international break, the 2010 champions of http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/AS-Nancy-c38468
Lorraine, Marseille wrote a new chapter in their illustrious history.
With their fifth consecutive win of the campaign, Les Phoceens have now achieved their best start to a campaign in 80 years. Understandably, Elie Baup’s charges’ performance has been hailed by national and regional press.
First turn was of Le Provence, where this morning’s headlines read, “In legend”. Praises were heaped by other newspapers as well including L’Equipe that summed up Marseille’s achievement by saying, “Nothing can stop OM! And now, OM rule!”
Le Parisien, a newspaper that has historically made sure that the rivalry between OM and Paris Saint-Germain never gets old, just had to admit that their archrivals have achieved something extraordinary.
“The great Marseille,” read the headlines of the Ile daily.
Throughout the summer transfer window, no one expected Marseille to comeback so strong especially under the guidance of Baup. However, things have changed drastically in a couple of months. Andre-Pierre Gignac, a man whose career at the club seemed finished,
has rediscovered his goalscoring touch. Defence, which seemed to be ailing last season, is the best in the league at the moment.
However, the league is still long but Marseille can get a lot of confidence from this achievement.
