Pressure driving St. Louis Cardinals forward – MLB Playoffs
As the National League Championship Series gradually enters into a decisive phase, the St. Louis Cardinals continue to strengthen their stranglehold, inching closer to their ultimate destination of a World Series title.
However, much as the ambition is touching a new peak, there is a burgeoning pressure that has the potential to transform into a bigger one. That pressure, interestingly, is what the team has taken as a constructive and motivating factor to continue their
march.
That pressure is what the team manager Tony La Russa referred to while shedding light on the approach of the St. Louis Cardinals in the post-season games.
"No. 1, our philosophy is based on recognizing pressure and making it your friend," manager Tony La Russa said. "From the first day of Spring Training, you try to make the club and earn playing time during the season. So you have to make something happen
-- you have to make a pitch.”
The team had to traverse some tricky trajectory to make their way into where they stand today. The philosophy is to put pressure on the guys which will transform them into more mentally strong players.
Tony La Russa believes this pressure will help them deal with everything differently.
The St. Louis Cardinals had to fight the Milwaukee Brewers in the regular season to turn the National League title to their favour. Although fate was not on their side, they came with stronger resolve in the National League Division Series.
They took on the heavily-favoured and undeniably stronger Philadelphia Phillies and beat them 3-2 in the hard fought National League Division Series.
Cardinals have so far had a 2-1 lead in the National League Championship Series. Losing Game 1 by 9-6, the Cardinals jumped back into the series with a 12-3 win in Game 2 and continue their winning ways with a 4-3 Game 3 victory.
It will be interesting to see how the team embraces the pressure and dominates the Series over the Milwaukee Brewers. The Cardinals will be looking to come out with another tremendous performance and dominate the Brewers early.
