Question:

Pressure in throwing a partylite party.

I went to a partylite candle party the other day. It was my 1st one. The consultant had this little "game" where you picked two little candles out of a box where there were little slips of paper under them...so you didn't know which one you were going to get. The little slips of paper either said Free Gift or Throw a Partylite Party. I picked one of each. Right away, the consultant was on my butt about wanting to schedule a party at my house and was giving me info and stuff. I 'm really not interested in having one of these at my house, mainly because I do not want to invite people and have them pressured into buying things and especially being pressured into having parties at their houses. I do not to put people in awkward positions, and I don't want people to think that I'm only inviting them to buy stuff, even when I'm not going to make any money.

So my questions is....what should I tell the consultant when she calls?

  1. i do not know what is wrong with being direct.you know what?if someone is so rude as to push you-and use you, since you will have to invite friends, offer ur house etc.then i do not see whay on earth you should have any tact with this person.just say:i am not interested.i do not want to give out any names of my friends-possible buyers.i am simply not interested.if you got anything, even a sample of perfume offer to send it by mail.be firm.just wish her good luck and close the subject.

    the nerve on these people.

i understand it is a job but they should not press you.no matter how charming the person is-and it is her job to be charmig-she only wants your contacts.

there is no shame on being honest.

  2. I'm a PartyLite consultant and I hate those kind of games. I'm not a pushy consultant. So, when she calls just say "Hey, I'm sorry I don't want to have a party. If that ever changes I will call you. Please don't bother me about this again. However I would like to recieve the monthy email of Hostess specials. Thank you.

  3. I don't know what information that consultant gave you before playing, but I play a game to help me get bookings at my Partlite shows.  I inform people right away that their is a possilbity that they could have to book a show, but I do not pressure them into playing.  I have had people who never hold thier shows from the game, but most people do.  It sounded like this consultant however, was very pushy in her game... like a previous post said, when she calls to do her followup call, tell her that right now is not a good time to have a show, but please add me to your monthly mailings and I will contact you when that changes.  Another option would be if you don't want to have the show in your house, there are always book or catalog shows. They do not get as many sales as a home show, but it might make the consultant happy and off your back if you do one of those :)  I hate consultants who are pushy too, so that is why i choose to hold my business differently.  I hope that helps you some and sorry that this consulant was so pushy.

  4. Oh! I feel so bad for you!

Since it was your first PartyLite party, you got blindsided by the typical, pushy rep. The majority of their job consists of pressuing party guests into having their own party and 'games' are their typical MO. You probably also got guilted a few dozen times with "All (insert hostess name here) needs is $500 in sales to receve these fabulous hostess gifts".  They try to make you feel like a cheap-o if you don't spend $$ so that the hostess will get her 'fabulous' stuff!

You are not alone in wanting avoid having your friends and family pressured into buying overprices things they don't need or want, in addition to be hounded by the rep to have their OWN party. Call the rep and say you have reconsidered and you will NOT be having the party. Then hang up! DO NOT give ANY excuse or engage the rep in conversation.

My boss (male) was a PartyLite consultant and he constantly pressured us to buy the overpriced wax and glass that is PartyLite. YUK!
