Pressure of legal fight on concussion policies surmounts on NFL as more players seek compensation -NFL News
It is yet again that former National Football League (NFL) players have come to the rash criticism of the league’s concussion related policies in their filing of lawsuits and pleading for compensation.
As of the latest more than a dozen of former players of the American professional football league have claimed of the office’s failing in their protection from the concussion-related risks.
As many as 11 players from the New Orleans Saints have filed a class-action lawsuit against the NFL before a US federal court of law.
Almost all of them have accused the NFL of failing them in their protection from the risks related to the head injury they had suffered during their professional career in the league.
"Wanting their players on the field instead of training tables, and in an attempt to protect a multibillion dollar business, the NFL has purposefully attempted to obfuscate the issue and has repeatedly refuted the connection between concussions and brain
injury to the disgust of Congress, which has blasted the NFL's handling of the issue on multiple occasions," the lawsuit said.
They said that in the face of lacking protective environment they have suffered mental or physical problems, resulting from their concussion injuries and concussion-symptoms like situations during their professional football career.
"Those who had sustained concussions reported more problems with memory, concentration, speech impediments, headaches and other neurological problems than those who had not been concussed," according to the lawsuit.
The lawsuit has cited a survey of the NFL players that had been carried out in 2000. According to findings of the survey more than 60 per cent of the players have suffered atleast on concussion during their professional careers.
Further, the survey revealed, that as many as 26 per cent of the players have been inflicted on three or more head injuries.
It is once again that NFL office faces a legal fight from more of its former players, all of them accusing it of its negligence towards providing a safe and secure playing environment on the field. They said that NFL’s lapse has resulted in multiplicity
and complication of problems they and their family members have been through as a result of those injuries.
The league’s office in the meantime has denied of being involved in any wrong doing, saying that the protection and safety of the players have always been its priority.
Apparently, it has also been preparing to face off all those accusations and allegations in the court, while pleading for consolidation of all the lawsuits before one federal judge.
A ruling on NFL’s plea of combining all those lawsuits before one judge is pending yet. The league is also seeking dismissal of those lawsuits and it is also to be decided yet if the stand a merit for hearing and proceedings.
