  1. Do you mean the bus or the train station, they're relatively close but the walk to the hospital could take you a while; especially if you don't know where you're going, it's a far trek from the city centre.

Buses from the train station are almost non-existant, I forget what the number bus is from the bus station but they have a few people walking around working there who you could ask. Once you're on sit near the front and ask the driver to let you know when you're stop is coming up. After that, the hospital has about 10 bus stops, just wait for one titled 'city centre' or 'bus station' I remember they're about 15 minutes inbetween and the main hospital desk has an automatic timetable which will show you.

  2. See http://www.transportdirect.info/ - enter "Preston Rail Station" and station/airport from the drop-down box for your "from" details, enter the hospital's postcode, PR2 9HT and address/postcode in "to". It will tell you to walk from the station (up the ramp from the exit, turn right onto Fishergate, then walk along Fishergate until you get to Lancaster Road, where you can pick up a bus from one of the stops by the library). Transport Direct says the walk will be 10-11 minutes, but I'd think that's only if the pavements are particularly crowded. The bus ride will also take about 10 minutes. If you use the Transport Direct site you can print off maps showing the route you need to take, it's really easy to use.

  3. From their website:

    Directions to Royal Preston Hospital

How to find us – by local transport:

    Bus service

Preston Bus Ltd operates services from the main Preston Bus Station to Royal Preston Hospital, via routes through local areas.  Services required are numbers 7/19/22/23/123.  Preston Bus has recently introduced onto the hospital routes buses adapted for use by disabled people to ensure easy access and exit from public transport.

For further information please contact Preston Bus Ltd on tel: 01772 821199 or 01772 253671.

    Taxi service

Local taxi firms also offer a service to and from the hospital.  Free-phones are available at the Preston site to make taxi bookings.

    Shuttle bus service

The Trust provides a shuttle bus service between Royal Preston Hospital and Chorley and South Ribble Hospital.

Tickets can be purchased from the General Offices, which are located in the main entrances to both hospitals and are open from 9am to 5pm Monday to Friday (except bank holidays).  The price per single journey is £1.00.

The bus stops are positioned at the Gordon Hesling Block entrance at Royal Preston Hospital and the main entrance at Chorley and South Ribble Hospital.

The service is subject to available seating and the purchase of a ticket does not guarantee travel on the next available shuttle bus.

Lancashire Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust does not accept any liability whatsoever for any property loss or damage incurred or sustained on the shuttle bus service and or during transit.  Such property is brought onto the vehicle at your own risk.
