Preston Jenkins wins Men’s 200m back-stroke gold medal – 2011 USA Swimming Sectionals
Preston Jenkins of GCAT clinched the title of Men’s 200m back-stroke on the final day of the 2011 USA Swimming Sectionals in Athens, Georgia, USA.
Jenkins qualified as the third fastest swimmer into the finals, as he finished his swim in a time of 2 minutes and 07.12 seconds in the qualifying rounds. Nevertheless, 17-year-old Jenkins elevated his swim in the final rounds, as he clocked a time of 2
minutes and 02.61 seconds for the gold medal.
He was followed by Kyle S Owens of AUB, who stayed just 0.29 seconds behind Jenkins and settled on the podium for the silver medal, by posting a time of 2 minutes and 02.90 seconds. Moments later, Jay Litherland of DYNA, who qualified as the top fastest
swimmer into the finals, concluded his swim in a third fastest place by posting a time of 2 minutes and 05.35 seconds.
He was followed by Brand Siemasko of AUB, who stayed 0.97 seconds behind his preceding swimmer and submitted a time of 2 minutes and 06.38 seconds to secure the fourth position. Siemasko’s team-member, Max M Murphy remained only 0.30 seconds behind Siemasko
and reported on the finishing wall for the fifth position, with a time of 2 minutes and 06.68 seconds. In addition, with his tactful effort, 21-year-old Murphy out-touched his following swimmer, Robert Leasure of LAK, with a difference of only 0.15 seconds.
The 16-year-old Leasure secured the sixth best spot of the race, by reporting in a time of 2 minutes and 06.83 seconds. Dillon H Love of SwimMAC Carolina was the seventh fastest swimmer of the race, as he concluded his race in 2 minutes and 07.13 seconds.
He was followed by Koya Osada of NCAC, who stayed only 0.26 seconds behind Love and settled on the finishing wall for the eighth position, with a timing of 2 minutes and 07.39 seconds.
Furthermore, the session concluded after the scheduled final event, while the arena appreciated the terrific efforts of all participants, who tried to secure a podium finish.
