when i was younger about age 8 i was diagnosed with this, im now 19. I was told by my Dr that it is caused by a bacteria, although what i read on the internet says its a fungus. I had repeated Dr visits while my vision severely decreased changing every couple of months drastically. It was left untreated i just would get stronger lenses for my glasses. Im not sure of the date although im trying to get my records but years later i was told it some how managed to cure itself leaving me with bad scars on the back of my eyes. I was also told i have windows ? Due to my bad immune system, and constant hospital stays due to bacteria caused diseases (cat scratch fever, constant swollen glands, and stomach problems where my muscles do not contract leaving me and horrible pain unable to digest solid food and causing my bowel to back up into my intestines) Because of all my problems ALL being left pretty much unexplained im curious to learn about the different bacteria. ESPECIALLY the fact that the dr said my mother WOULD HAVE had to been by the mississippi river while pregnant with me, funny thing is she never been there in her life. Im getting sick of dr's and being left as a mystery. Im sick of being sick!! its painful and confuseing. I hope to get as much help and advice as possible. Is a person ever really be cured of POHS? Did i ever really even have it?

  1. I'm sure you've already done some research but these two sites give some good information to a few of the questions you have:

    http://www.cdc.gov/nczved/dfbmd/disease_...

    http://www.nei.nih.gov/health/histoplasm...

But to answer some of your questions, histo can become "inactive" which is what the spots in your eye have done.  Some spots in the retina can be referred to as "window defects" which is probably what they were talking abou when they said windows.  It's basically just what it sounds like, an open area in a layer of your retina, forming a sort of "window".

One of the websites lists the common states and areas of the country where histo is found but keep in mind it can be found in other areas, the mississippi river valley is just the most common.
