Pretty Miss looks pretty good in Romford Stayers Trophy heats
Romford hosted Monday’s only open races with the Coral On TV Stayers Trophy heats over 575m. The top two finishers of each race advanced to Friday’s final.
Heat one
In the first heat Pretty Miss took the early lead after getting a good start and pushing her way to the inside. She won the race by a length over Milwards Dream, who checked on the first bend and wasn’t
able to catch up to Pretty Miss.
The 5-4 race favourite, Rio Sanzio, finished third after getting caught in the middle of the group, and falling behind on the sixth bend. In fourth was Droopys Kirbee, who got off to a good start, but
lost ground on both the fifth and sixth bends.
Finishing in last was Home Lennon, and pulled from the third trap and not replaced was Jodu Fame.
Heat two
Directors Spur forced his way into the lead on the third bend in the second heat after Bubbly Rambo took the early lead. From there Spur was not to be caught, winning the race by 2¼ lengths over Rambo.
In third place was Gold Reef, who got off to a good start, but still trailed early and lost further ground on the first bend. Reef did manage to beat the 6-4 race favourite, Lolos Schillagi. A poor start
is to blame for Lolos poor performance.
Finishing in fifth place was 20-1 longshot, Melford Blue. Blue avoided finishing in sixth after Crazy Roo dropped out of the third trap and was not replaced.
Heat three
Heat three saw the third race favourite eliminated as the 2-1 favourite, Blue Bee, finished in fourth place. The race was won with ease by All That Noise, taking the win by 4¼ lengths over Springmount
Colo.
Droopys Elbow finished in third place, only ¾ lengths back of Colo. The rest of the field was close as well with Blue Bee finishing just a ½ length behind third, and Bubbly Cruiser a head behind Bee in
fifth. Last place went to Rio Venturo.
Trainer Mark Wallis saw two of his hounds win heats last night, and with all the favourites being knocked out he is hoping that either All That Noise or Directors Spur can repeat their Monday performance
in Friday’s final.
