  1. Churches do not operate for the sole purpose of hosting wedding ceremonies and receptions!

If you are not associated with any faith or church, then why do you want to get married in a church?  And, if you want a reception at a church...well, there will be NO drinking, and, most likely, no dancing allowed either.

You can call around to different churches and see if they are willing to let a non-member use the church....but be prepared to pay!!

Less strict ones are Methodist Churches and Unitarian Universalist Churches.  Try those ones first.

  2. If you don't have your own church, why would you want to get married in church?

  3. Why do people save going to church for their weddings and funerals?  If you aren't associated with a church make a call to local churches to find out if they accommodate non-member weddings.  If so, they will probably charge a lot.  Are your parents associated with a church?  Are your grandparents associated with a church? How about your future in laws?  If you aren't a member, be prepared to pay for the use of the building and the minister's time.

  4. its okay if you don't belong to a church but want to have a ceremony/reception there.  whats it to anyone else?  do what you want!   what about a chapel?  i am having my wedding at a non-denominational chapel in naperville, at naper settlement.  a family friend is a judge and he is performing the ceremony, and it is right outside downtown naperville, so i am sure, if you can't have the reception there, you could have it somewhere close by.

there is also montefiori, which has a chapel and reception venue (i am not sure how close to lemont you are, or can be...?)

Hope this helps, and best of luck to you!

if you want more ideas, feel free to look me up, i would be more than happy to give you some more ideas, to the best of my ability!

  5. You could start by looking in the phone book for churches.  Then drive by them and see if you like the outside of the building.  You may have some of your photos taken outside, if you get married in the summer, so having a church with some trees, green grass, and land around the building would be nice.  Look at the entrance.  Sometimes you can tell what the church is like inside by looking at the front.  Does it have big white doors, like a classic country church?  Is it contemporary?  This may give you a clue to what the inside is like.  Catholic churches may not let you get married in their church if you are not Catholic.

Be prepared to talk with the Pastor at the church.  He/She will want to know if you go to church now, and what your beliefs are.  They will also want you to go to some Pre Marriage counseling- where you sit with the Pastor for a few sessions and talk about marriage and your future with your hubby to be.  A Pastor will not want to marry somebody who they feel is not prepared for marriage, or whose marriage clearly is not going to work.  They want to make sure you are making a responsible decision.

A church will charge you to get married there if you are not a member.  It may be quite a bit, perhaps several hundred dollars or more, depending on the church.  Also, the church organist and the Pastor get paid for their services.  Pay the Pastor $200- $500.  The organist will tell you what they charge.

    I hope this is helpful.
