Question:

Pretty serious dilemma here. ?

I've always had a plan for myself just in case my high school grades go to h**l in a handbasket, and that was to go join up in either the army or the police. I don't know why, but these two options have always appealed to me as alternatives.

Problem is, a person with a documented history of depression cannot participate in either of the two careers that I mentioned. So I'm faced with a problem. If I go to a therapist or something, I'm probably going to get prescribed some anti-depressants, and it will go on my medical record. People with c**p like that on their records get the instant "No." from both the army and the police.

If I don't go to a therapist, I don't quite know if my depression will reach the point where I am a threat to myself. What do I do?

  1. Try to find the roots of your depression and deal with them accordingly. Take control! Don't let something like depression rule your life! If you have life goals like the ones you mentioned, which are pretty cool, then you keep telling yourself that you WILL accomplish these things and NOTHING will stand in your way. Remember that negative attracts negative, so think POSITIVE.

  2. Is there a counsellor that you can see who isnt a clinical psychiatrist who you will be able to talk with about the things that are depressing you like a rabbi, priest, minister?

Have you tried Omega3 - flax seed oil, its worth a shot, I take it and it seems to do ok but may not be for someone who is depressed.

  3. THEY GOT THIS GREAT THING NOW CALLED THE HIPPA PRIVACY ACT,AND IT IS FOR YOUR PRIVACY, NO ONE CAN KNOW YOUR MED HISTORY UNLESS YOU LET THEM. FOR POLICE ACCADAMY YOU HAVE TO TAKE A MENTAL EVALUATION, BUT AS LONG AS YOU ANSWER THE ?S RIGHT THEY WILL NEVER KNOW. IM BIPOLAR AND I TAKE ANTIPHSYCOTICS AND I WENT TO NURSING SCHOOL AND WORK IN A HOSPITAL,AND GUESS WHAT, NONE OF MY MEDS SHOWED UP ON THE DRUG SCREEN. THE ONLY ONES THAT DO ARE ILLEGAL DRUGS AND PAIN KILLERS, AND THEY DID AN 11 TIER DRUG SCREEN ON ME, WHICH LOOKS FOR EVERYTHING. ALL HOPE IS NOT LOST,HON. BE POSITIVE YOUR LIFE WILL BE GREAT!

  4. Depression is a chemical imbalance and is very serious. You should start looking into other careers, and possible pathways for your life. There are plenty of other careers that are great. Depression is a serious matter. And if you haven't been to a therapist, how do you know that you have depression, it could be another problem. I hope this helped. : )

  5. This may sound silly but perhaps you should try going to a career counselor first and see what other options are out there for you.  You dont have to explain the severe depressed state that you are in right now.  Just explain to him what you want and why you might not get it.  He might help you find another career you might be interested in that wont be restricted from you due to your depression.

I agree though, dont go to a therapist right away.  If you really do need one later, do your research and make sure you get a good one qualified in helping with teenage depression.  Dont just get some random therapist.
