Prevent smoke shooting fireworks

How can I minimize the smoke captured when i'm shooting fireworks ?

also is there anyway to post process fireworks in photoshop ?

  1. Mike gave you good tips for the actual shooting part.

    Then, in post processing, using levels and/or curves will help a lot to make those dark greyish areas into black or nearly so.

    Selectively burning should take care of the rest.


  2. Fireworks uses black powder, which makes a lot of smoke.  To eliminate or reduce its appearance, you have to reduce the amount of ambient light that is hitting it, which is usually difficult to control.  By getting upwind of the fireworks, the smoke will be blown away from you, reducing its effect.  If you can determine where the fireworks will be going off - by observing the practice runs or asking - you may be able to position yourself off to the side with a longer lens so there is much less light behind you or between you and the smoke to reflect off of it.
