  1. i dont think you can! i am extremely afraid of needles and i cry and scream everytime i have to get a shot!

  2. you have to look away and think about something else.  you have to really mentally strong to do it -- just force your mind to think about something else or play an ipod and listen to music and look away.

  3. still trying to figure that out. i need to do a blood test and have been putting it off for months.

  4. Don't look!

  5. You're all a bunch of babies! I don't mind watching its especially cool to watch em' put in an IV which freaks the techs out because they're used to wimps like you crying like a five year old! BABIES!!!

  6. I just answered this question. Why do you ask the same questions over and over and over? Grow up.

  7. I've literally had to have people chase me and pin me down to a chair to get me to have a blood test [let alone injection.]

Over the past two years I've been getting better, and what I've learned is that you have to just not look. I'm not saying look away after staring for a few seconds - when you know a needle is going to be there, close your eyes before you even get to see it.

I also find gripping something tightly with my other hand when having a blood test helps. I squeeze my eyes shut and hold on really tight to my leg, an object, or even the doctor/doctor's assistant's hand.

I still get a little afraid, but it's not unbearable, and it's a common fear so most people WILL understand.

  8. Perhaps trying a bit of self-hypnosis might help.  Hypnotise yourself to think of something else whilst it is happening.  With supreme and extreme will power you can do it.

  9. I agree - I have skillfully avoided my blood test for months too!

I faint everytime I get one

(And I have to often to check my thyroid - I've hypothyroidism & diabetes)

No sure fire cure I don't think - just try to be brave and I always ask to lie down on the nurses' theatre bed as I without fail, always collapse

    Take Care

    :-)
