Question:

Preventing glasses from getting wet?

I'm nearly blind without my glasses. But if it starts raining, the lenses get wet and I soon can't see. This is a problem, especially while hiking. I use an umbrella, but when I'm hiking a narrow trail with lots of shrubs and branches they get in the way. Any solutions anyone else has devised? Maybe a hat with a brim sticking out very far in front?

  1. get contacts. i've been wearing them for five years and i would say i forget i even have them. who needs frames covering your face? glasses are a pain. i love my contacts.

also, if you can afford it, consider lasic eye surgery. my father had this corrective surgery and said there is virtually no pain involved.

    good luck.

  2. Umbrella's work wonderful to keep the rain off of you.

I got contacts 25 years ago and it was one of the best things I ever did.

  3. gotta say, contacts would be the only real option for that.

  4. You could try those umbrella-hats that some people wear on the golf course. The hat itself is an umbrella...

But yeah, if you're hiking, I'd recommend lenses, too. What if you slip and lose your glasses? o.O

  5. My quick solution is to just look down, but only if you're walking a short distance, because you won't know where you're going.  xD

Or, do a two hand salute to block the rain.  That's what I do.

For hiking, I would just wear a baseball cap or get contacts.

For quick and easy blotch-free wiping, get one of those CD cloths or just a lens cloth and use those.  They work like a charm and you don't need spray.

    Hope this helps!

  6. Wear a ball cap and bring a micro-fiber cloth to clean them. Don't use contacts for the hiking in the bushes. Your glasses are also giving you protection from a branch poking you in the eye. You could also avoid hiking in the rain when possible. Sadly, this is a side affect of wearing glasses.
