Prevention of Terrorist Movement and Effective Border Security ?

Despite constant efforts to deny its existence, cross border terrorism remains a global issue with no immediate solution. Border security is a pivotal function in protecting people from terrorists & their instruments of destruction. Effective border security measures need to be implemented to hamper terrorist activities.

Efforts must be taken by nations in the Security Council primarily and the UN on the whole to solve this major problem.

What steps need to be taken by member nations to stop their land being used by terrorists for training and other activities? How do we ensure that intelligence related to terrorist movement is shared by concerned countries? What controls need to be implemented to improve border security?

Informative answers would be great. Good articles on the same are always welcome.

There is a central organisation within the UN that does coordinate all the issues that you raised. However, the biggest obstacle is getting all member states to agree on simple issues like "what is terrorism". If a definition of terrorism cannot be agreed upon, how can u expect grander plans to be developed?

As long as nations have their own agendas, terrorism is never going to be stopped. Despite the permanent security members being the most outspoken about terrorism, they are also the biggest supporters (eg: the predecessor to Al Queda was funded by the US via the Pakistani ISI to fight the Soviets in Afghanistan; the terrorist organisations in the Balkans were funded and trained by the US State Dept; ).

I think the concepts of borders is an old mindset. Borders no longer exist in most of Europe. The same can be said about much of Asia, Africa and the America's. If borders do exist, few are patrolled or marked.
